Patrick & Samuel — Brothers in Learning

Two orphaned brothers raised by their grandmother, kept in school through consistent community support.

Two young brothers studying together in school uniforms

Patrick and Samuel lost both parents before either of them had finished primary school. Their grandmother, a subsistence farmer in Kisii, took them in without hesitation — but stretching her resources to cover school fees for two boys, along with uniforms, books, and daily meals, was a weight she could not carry alone.

My grandchildren go to school every morning. That is all I ever asked God for.

Steady support, not one-time charity

Mercy of Hope began covering the brothers' school fees and linked them with a local mentor who visits monthly. The difference is consistency. Patrick and Samuel know that next term is taken care of. That certainty — knowing you will be in school tomorrow — changes how a child approaches learning today. Their grandmother says the boys wake up earlier now. They argue about who gets to read first.

Two paths, one shared foundation

Patrick is quiet and excels in mathematics. Samuel is social, loves sports, and talks about wanting to work with animals. They are not the same child, and the program does not treat them that way. Each has a mentorship plan that reflects his personality and pace. What they share is the foundation — stable support, consistent presence, and a community that has decided their future matters.
