Sarah is a single mother in Kangemi who works long hours to provide for her three children. When the eldest was about to miss a full school term due to unpaid fees, Sarah reached out to every resource she could find. A local church leader connected her to Mercy of Hope.
“I was not asking for charity. I was asking for a chance. That is what they gave us.”
A family effort
Mercy of Hope covered the immediate fee shortfall and connected Sarah’s eldest child to the mentorship program. But the support extended beyond one child — volunteers helped Sarah access a local savings group, connected her younger children to a homework support network, and checked in regularly to make sure the family’s situation was stable.
What community looks like
Sarah’s story is not about a single rescue. It is about what happens when a community has structures in place to catch families before they fall too far. Her eldest child returned to school and has stayed consistently. Sarah herself has become an advocate in Kangemi, directing other mothers to the same resources that helped her.
